Silly Rules of Style

Families on the Road, together we also did Legoland!
Five women, two young girls and a two month old on a mission to thrift shop today.  We have been enjoying our time with our new families we have met on the road, from dinners to thrift shopping, and goofing off at Legoland.  This has been a fun time in our traveling, kind of like living near relatives on wheels.

The fun at the thrift shop today started as Bonnie went around racks, pulling clothes for this lady, and that one, finding a style for Clementine and Lisa (who ended up with a bag full!).  It was clothes shopping with women who could be free, fun, and completely themselves.  We juggled the kids, the changing room, spit up, and lots of skirts and dresses.

The event caused me to reflect on how I have previously felt about shopping with other women.  Before, I was not as open, more worried about how my body sized up to theirs, if my own style was "in style".  The experience today was almost healing, as women chose their unique styles regardless of what the "professionals" might say was "in".  We were honest about what we liked, what we needed to hide and we needed to emphasize.

It seems I am still finding my way, even with clothes.  I don't really know what styles I love.  I am certain, however, that I now will only wear what feels great and comfy.  This limits my wardrobe, and weeds out a lot of the clothes on the racks.  I couldn't tell you yet if I like greens better, skirts with flashy color, or shorts above my knees.  I am discovering my own clothing, like a painter decides their new palette.  No one can paint the same painting, and no one can dictate anyone's creative style of dress, it is just as unique as the person.  So what if you find your shoes on the "What Not To Wear" show, if you love them, live in them.  Maybe, even add a sassy step too, just in spite of all of those silly stylish rules.  You go girl.

That sounds like my kind of shopping!! I'm happy you're surrounded with real women happily living in their own skin.

Thrift shopping and your own style. Now that't the way to do it.

I wish I could have been there. It's true. Embrace your own style. Wear it with confidence.

I knew the moment I met you that I liked you! Thrift store shopping rocks my socks. When we started out this journey I had this idea that I was going to document my thrift store purchases across the US but alas there is only so much time... I've done it a few times but not like I thought I would.

I realize my reply is way over due, just wanting all of you ladies to know I would love to spend a day with you all and find some crazy, me stylin' outfit to rock! I think we would all have a day full of laughter!
